This song peaked at No. 7 on the Australian charts, not a bad result considering it was the fourth single from their debut album ‘Savage Garden’.

This song was No. 1 on the Alternative Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay charts in America; it peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 in Canada, No. 8 in Australia and No. 33 in the UK.
Song 2 – Blur
‘Song 2’ was recorded as a joke on their record company, it turned out that the record company liked the song and so did the general public as it peaked at No. 2 in the UK and No. 4 in Australia plus charted in several other countries.
This two minute and two second song has two verses and two choruses, so it is a song with a lot of twos in it and of course it has a lot of ‘Woo-hoo’.
I love this song; I was so eager to get out of a high school in 2003 that I wasn’t popular in that this song popped up into my head before one of my last Year 11 exams and I would mimic the first few notes and then say ‘Woo-hoo’.
MMMBop – Hanson
MMMBop was a big hit, it was No. 1 in 18 music charts around the world and Top 10 in another dozen charts.
The version on this compilation runs for 4 minutes and 31 seconds and so it is not the single version of the song.
The song was inspired by The Beach Boys and other vocal groups of the 1960s.
I Can Make You Feel Good – Kavana
This song peaked at No. 8 in the UK, No. 32 in Australia and No. 71 in Germany, Kavana had eight songs chart in the UK, five in Australia, three in Germany and one in New Zealand between 1996 and 1999.
The original version by Shalamar done slightly better in the UK by peaking at No. 7 in 1982.
Don’t Let Go (Love) – En Rogue
This song delivered En Rogue a No. 2 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, it was No. 3 in Australia, No. 5 in the UK, No. 10 in New Zealand.
En Rogue peaked at No. 2 three times on the Billboard Hot 100, it happened in 1990, 1992 and 1996.
I Shot the Sherriff – Warren G
This version of the Bob Marley hit song (later Eric Clapton) is different as Bob Marley’s lyrics were largely replaced with Warren G’s lyrics though Eric Clapton’s version is sampled in the song and the original chorus is in the song.
New Zealand loved the song as it hit No. 1 on the charts, Australia liked it too as it peaked at No. 8, it was a Top 20 song in America as it peaked at No. 20.
Warren’s son Olaijah made the practice squad of both the Buffalo Bills and New York Giants in the NFL.
Bitch – Meredith Brooks
This song gave Meredith Brooks the No. 2 position on the Billboard Hot 100; it was also No. 2 in Australia and Canada, No. 4 in New Zealand, No. 6 in Canada and charted in many music markets around the world.
Four of Meredith’s singles would chart somewhere in the world between 1997 and 1999 with ‘I Need’ the second-best charting song by peaking at No. 28 in the UK.
‘Bitch’ got a parody in 2000, it was called ‘Bloke‘ and gave Chris Franklin the No. 1 spot on the charts in Australia.
I am, I Feel – Alisha’s Attic
‘I Am, I Feel’ peaked at No. 14 in the UK, No. 18 in Australia and charted in eight other music markets.
Alisha’s Attic would have a total of 9 charting songs in the UK between 1996 and 2001, three songs would chart in Australia and two in Germany and Sweden.

Sometimes you read a song title on a CD and think that you’ve never heard of it before and then you play it and remember that you have, this was the case for ‘Your Woman’ by White Town.
This song hit No. 1 in the UK, Iceland and Spain and peaked at No. 2 in Australia, it had charted in other countries around the world including No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Queen of New Orleans – Jon Bon Jovi
This song is from Jon Bon Jovi’s second solo album ‘Destination Anywhere’, it peaked at No. 10 in the UK and had just squeaked into the Top 40 in Australia by peaking at No. 40.
The album would do a lot better in Australia, it had peaked at No. 4 and even better in the UK with a peak of No. 2.
It must have been many years since I had heard this song, I remember hearing it long ago and heard it quite a few times in the late 90s but must have stopped hearing it around 2000.
If You Could Only See – Tonic
‘If You Could Only See’ was the third single from Tonic’s debut album ‘Lemon Parade’ and topped Billboard’s ‘Mainstream Rock’ chart and Canada’s Rock/Alternative chart as well.
It peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted on a total of five Billboard charts and the song peaked at No. 20 in Australia.
Down Again – The Superjesus
Down Again was the debut single by Australian rock band The Superjesus, the song peaked at No. 23 starting a run of 11 consecutive charting singles in Australia between 1997 and 2004 and four charting albums from four attempts between 1998 and 2025, their most recent album ‘The Superjesus’ was released in March 2025 and peaked at No. 10.
Anybody Seen My Baby? – The Rolling Stones
‘Anybody Seen My Baby?’ was the lead single from their album ‘Bridges to Babylon’, it was their 19th single out of 24 to be released in the 1990s.
This song had mixed success, topping the charts in Canada and Poland and peaking at No. 22 in the UK and No. 58 in Australia while charting in several other countries.

This song was a 1995 release in North America, but Australians had to wait awhile for a remixed version to be released, it was released in 1996 and was the first of twelve songs to chart up to 2025, it peaked at No. 5 in 1997.
It was Shania’s first Top 5 single that was on anything other than the American or Canadian country charts, Shania would achieve Top 5 success on the Billboard Hot 100 and Canada’s main chart with ‘You’re Still The One’ in 1998.
It was the fourth of six consecutive No. 1 songs on the Canadian country chart and the first of three consecutive No. 1 songs on the Hot Country Songs chart in America.
You Were Meant For Me – Jewel
This song was No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay and the Adult Contemporary chart, it peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, No. 2 in Canada and peaked at No. 3 in Australia, it also charted in several other countries as well.
This was Jewel’s equal highest effort on the Billboard Hot 100, ‘Foolish Games’ would also peak at No. 2 and Jewels first six albums were in the Top 10 in America, the first four were in the Top 10 in Australia.
