Savage Garden had the perfect Studio Album record in Australia, two studio album releases and both made it to No. 1.

Both albums peaked in the Top 10 in America with ‘Savage Garden’ getting the best result of a peak of No. 3.

Savage Garden achieved two No. 1 singles in both Australia and America, but it was Canada who loved them more with three No. 1 singles.

I love both albums and will go for three songs from each album, some songs that I like will miss the cut, but nobody wants a novel length post to read through if I include all the big songs.

Break Me Shake Me

I love how this song starts nice and calmly and then just explodes when it gets to the chorus only to settle back down again

This song peaked at No. 7 on the Australian charts, not a bad result considering it was the fourth single from ‘Savage Garden’.

To The Moon and Back

There are four versions of this music video, the Australian version, the international version, the 98 version and the dance remix version.

This song, Savage Garden’s second single, hit No. 1 in Australia, No. 3 in the UK, No. 4 in New Zealand and No. 24 in America.

This song grabs attention from the first note, you get the feeling that something is coming and then the drums come in and the interest goes up for the rest of the song, there is so much to like about this song instrumentally.

Truly Madly Deeply

Truly Madly Deeply hit No. 1 in Australia, Canada and America, the only song that makes it to No. 1 in three major markets.

This is their most popular music video with 512 million views as of April 11, 2025.

To me this song is partly memorable because it made VH1’s ‘Awesomely Bad Love Songs’ (something like that) and the reason it made the list was that the person promises so much making it a tall order/tough act to follow situation.

It is a great song and worthy of all 512 million views that it has received plus all the singles purchased, the album purchases and streaming totals.

The Animal Song

The Drums starting off this song really make this song special along with the guitar playing but the music video is a fun one to watch, must have taken a lot of effort to get the parade in the video right, pretty cool to see Daniel Jones playing his guitar on top of a float.

What are the movie scenes in the music video from? It is the 1999 movie ‘The Other Sister’, makes me want to watch it.

I Knew I Loved You

This is Savage Garden’s big hit from ‘Affirmation’ and the music video is noted for starring Kirsten Dunst, this song only happened because the duo was challenged to make the next ‘Truly Madly Deeply’, a task they succeeded at.

It’s a much different song that ‘Truly Madly Deeply’, it is softer in sound for example it goes with the song instead of trying to get above the vocals.

This is a true classic in terms of songs that were hits in the 2000’s, technically late 90s as it was released in 1999, but it caught on in the early months of 2000, where it held No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for 17 weeks as well as the Billboard 100 for four weeks.

Affirmation

This music video is the international version as the Australian version was a music video filled with historical clips; this one is a mashup of the duo on tour.

The song itself is a song that many people can relate to, they find there is a lot of absolute truth in the lyrics, some say that the song was ahead of its time.

Family is really worth more than money or gold, Junk food does taste so good because it is bad for you, your most attractive features are your heart and soul.
