One of the finest bands in the 80s and 90s was INXS, songs like ‘Don’t Change’, ‘Baby Don’t Cry’, ‘Devil Inside’, ‘Suicide Blonde’, ‘Never Tear Us Apart’, ‘What You Need’ and more, some of those songs are below for you to enjoy.
Don’t Change
Michael Hutchence has to wait 49 seconds before he gets to say a single word of the lyrics but that’s not a bad thing as we get one of the most iconic intros to a song.
The song has that sound that gets your attention throughout the entire length of the song.
The ending is cool when everybody, but Jon Farriss gets back on the Ute, the Ute leaves and he finishes the drumming, chucks the drumsticks and walks off.
Never Tear Us Apart
‘Never Tear Us Apart’ is perhaps INXS’ most well-known song, the famous intro, the vocals, the blasting of the drums, the saxophone solo and then there is the music video.
The song hit No. 7 in the United States and despite its classic status only reached No. 14 in Australia which just proves that you don’t need to hit No. 1 to have a song that is known for generations.
Baby Don’t Cry
I once read a review of the album that ‘Baby Don’t Cry’ appeared on and it mentioned soccer, that it was like those chants you hear in an English soccer game.
Perhaps they are right but there is something great about a band and an orchestra paired together, Guns n Roses done it, John Farnham done it, Eric Clapton done it and as you see INXS done it too.
New Sensation
If you need something energetic, ‘New Sensation’ is the song to get the job done, just look at the people in the above performance, thousands of people jumping up and down in unison.
The song just has the perfect mix of sound, the right mix of drums, saxophone, guitar, keyboard, bass guitar and of course vocals.
By My Side
This is a great song, it showcases Michael’s vocals, and the song explodes when the gets to the chorus before settling back down, once again it has orchestra music to give it that great combined sound with the band.
What You Need
This live version of ‘What You Need’ shows you just how great INXS was, the perfect music playing combined with Michael’s singing and his stage presence.
Highlights are Michael’s command over the audience in the call and response and Tim Farriss getting lost in the music and not hearing Michael telling him to play the riff, when he does you hear musical perfection.
Need You Tonight
I love the intro to the song; it really sets the song up before the guitar, bass guitar and keyboard come in to really get it going, the song is catchy, it is easy to follow, it is simply a good one.
This song reached No. 1 in the United States and No. 3 in Australia signifying its popular status in the eyes of music fans.
