From 1998 to 2001, Five released three albums and wouldn’t release another one until 2021.

‘Five’ and ‘Invincible’ were Top 10 albums in Australia with ‘Kingsize’ hitting No. 21 and eight of their first nine Australian singles would hit the Top 10, the single sitting on the outside was ‘Don’t Wanna Let You Go’ which hit No. 17.

Here are a couple of selections that I enjoy listening to, it is hard to pick a favourite one because they all have that great sound and would happily listen to them every couple of weeks even less.

When The Lights Go Out

This the song that let the world know about Five (5ive back then), Slam Dunk (Da Funk) was known but this song was the song of choice hitting No. 2 in Australia and doing well in many other countries.

There were two versions of the music video, one was for the US market and Australia got the UK version, the UK version seems to have the fellas being looked at like they’re part of a shopping catalogue or perhaps online dating before its time.

If Ya Gettin’ Down

Don’t you just love songs that get straight to the point, you only need two lines of the song to get the gist of it.

I love the amount of work that goes into the music videos, I wonder how much time was put into music video preparation compared to song preparation, it would be interesting to know.

Keep On Movin’

Keep on Movin’ is another solid song, probably one of their easiest songs to follow which isn’t a bad thing.

It really is catchy and that’s what you want when you need music you can instantly get going to.

Battlestar

This track is the last one from the album ‘Invincible’ not counting ‘Inspector Gadget’ that is a hidden track if you let the CD run long enough, if you got the album just let it go after ‘Battlestar’ until it reaches Track 55.

Most people like to just play the hit songs on an album so they would miss a song like Battlestar, I love Battlestar Galactica, so I was surprised to hear parts of the show’s theme in a Five song.

If you skip to about four minutes and thirty-five seconds on the video, you’ll see a live rendition of the song so while there is no music video, you still get a live performance.

We Will Rock You

Touching a classic song is risky no matter if two members of Queen are part of it but this rendition with the Five touch worked out quite well, there’s no doubt that this rendition would be a favourite of many Five fans.

Everybody Get Up

Everybody Get Up is a song in which the song title can accurately portray how people would be reacting to the song, everybody likes to get up singing something from time to time and this song is no exception.

I love the music videos; they are high quality productions and ‘Don’t Wanna Let You Go’ is no exception, this song is a great track from the album Invincible, the title may be a bit arrogant, but they probably did feel invincible after two albums or scared out of their wits from the pressure of maintaining success.

Happy music, that’s the best way to describe this song and people still get a kick out of it even if they ask silly questions like ‘who is still listening in 2024’ or whatever year it is when they asked the question.
