B*Witched were big hit makers in 1998, they had three UK No. 1 singles and a fourth in 1999, but they fell from popularity really quickly outside of the United Kingdom.
Once saw a B*Witched CD being used as a frisbee in High School, that was around 2000/01, and it shows just how quickly things can change.
C’est la Vie
‘C’est la Vie’ started it all, it actually only made it to No. 6 in Australia, somewhat surprising considering the popularity of the song but 1998 was a busy year for the music charts.
Popular song for the Blue Light Discos, got plenty of plays on Video Hits, that show was the perfect way to start a Saturday morning, others tuned in to Rage especially if they really wanted to start from Midnight and kick on by switching to Video Hits until 11am or so.
Rollercoaster
They only had one No. 1 hit in Australia, and it was ‘Rollercoaster’, looking back it seems Australian listeners preferred their faster recordings than the slower ones like ‘To You I Belong’ and ‘Blame It On The Weatherman’
It is a good song to choose if you need something to get the energy levels up a little bit and you have selections from the 90s to choose from.
To You I Belong
Out of the five songs here, this would be No. 2 on my list, this song hit No. 25 in Australia, their last No. 1 song in Scotland and second last in the UK charts.
You really know if somebody has got it when they release a song that is slower in tempo than their biggest hits, it is probably better regarded now than its No. 25 status in 1998.
Blame It On The Weatherman
‘Blame It On The Weatherman’, it’s a good song but in another surprise, it was only No. 48 in Australia in 1999, whoever wanted the song probably already had it by having the album, but it is amazing how quickly an act can slide down the charts from top after two songs to almost out of the Top 50 by the fourth.
If I had to pick a favourite one, it would be this song ahead of ‘To You I Belong’ but only just, it sticks in the mind a little bit more.
Jesse Hold On
‘Jesse Hold On’ was the lead single for ‘Awake and Breathe’ and it saw the group land outside the Top 50 with the song peaking at No. 59 in Australia, the second last song to chart in the country.
It is not a bad song, probably a bit too much of ‘it goes on and on and on and on’ though the music video was interesting, those who love their classic trains would like it.
The music of the late 90s gets knocked around but B*Witched, Five, Backstreet Boys, S Club 7 and many others gave fun, energetic and occasionally the good ballad music.
